July 11, 2022 — A woman from Mississippi who suffered permanent scarring as a result of burn injuries from a Bella Pressure Cooker has filed a lawsuit against Sensio Inc.
The plaintiff, Margaret P., is a resident of Pascagoula, Mississippi, who claims that she suffered “life-long scarring to her breasts, neck and arms” due to a defective Bella Pressure Cooker made by Sensio.
The incident occurred on June 1, 2019, and involved a Bella 8-Quart 10-in-1 Multicooker (Model Number M-80B23G).
Her lawsuit claims that the pressure cooker is defective because the lid is removable with built-up pressure, heat and steam inside the unit.
“When the lid is removed under such circumstances, the pressure trapped within the unit causes the scalding hot contents to be projected from the unit and into the surrounding area,” the lawsuit states.
She blames the incident on the failure of the pressure cookers’ supposed “safety locking lid,” which was advertised in the Owner’s Manual with the following statement: “The lid will not come off when it is in the LOCK position.”
Instead, she claims that she was able to easily twist open the lid when there was still a dangerous amount of pressure inside the unit, resulting in an explosion of its scalding-hot contents all over her body.
The Bella Pressure Cooker Lawsuit was filed against Sensio Inc. (doing business as Bella) on June 29, 2022 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi (Southern Division) — Case Number 1:22-cv-00161-HSO-RHWR.
