A bankruptcy judge in Delaware has approved a $17 million settlement for women who claim they were sexually abused by Harvey Weinstein. The amount of money each woman will receive depend on the type of allegation, according to attorneys.
Weinstein Class Action Lawsuit Filed in New York
Six women who say they were sexually abused by Harvey Weinstein have filed a class action lawsuit against him, Miramax, The Weinstein Company and members of its board of directors. The women claim that Weinstein and his businesses worked to “perpetuate and conceal Weinstein’s widespread sexual harassment and assault,” in a cover-up that amounts to civil racketeering.

The Weinstein Co. fired its co-founder Harvey Weinstein on October 8, 2017, after dozens of women came forward to accuse the film producer of sexual harassment, assault, and rape. More than 60 women who have come forward to accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual abuse.
Lawyers Demand Weinstein Sex Abuse Settlement Fund
Gloria Allred, one of the most prominent attorneys in Hollywood, is urging The Weinstein Co. to set up a “substantial” settlement fund to compensate the women who were victimized by Harvey Weinstein.
Allred is representing several of the victims, and said:
“It’s time for The Weinstein Co. to put their money where their mouths are. They made many, many, many millions of dollars while Harvey Weinstein was behaving in the most egregious and reprehensible acts imaginable.”
Sex Abuse Claims Go Back Decades
The claims against Harvey Weinstein went public in October 2017, when The New York Times described numerous stories of sexual harassment by Harvey Weinstein dating back to the 1990s.

Harvey Weinstein paid massive financial settlements to avoid sex abuse lawsuits from women over the decades. The women involved in these Weinstein settlement agreements collected between roughly $80,000 and $150,000. The settlements were negotiated by lawyers for Weinstein’s film companies.
Weinstein Co. Hit With Sex Abuse Lawsuits
One of the first lawsuits against The Weinstein Co. and co-founder Harvey Weinstein was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court by actress Dominique Huett. She accuses accusing Weinstein of sexually assaulting her against her wishes at a hotel in Beverly Hill in 2010.
Her attorney, Jeff Herman, said, “It really is about the casting couch and the company knowing about it.” That information will be critical to overcome laws that would normally limit the amount of time a victim has to file a lawsuit for sexual abuse against Harvey Weinstein.
