June 21, 2017 — A recall has been issued for hummus products sold at Wal-Mart, Harris Teeter, Giant Eagle and other grocery stores due to a risk of food poisoning with Listeria.
No illnesses have been reported, but infections with Listeria can potentially cause severe complications like meningitis, bloodstream infections, and miscarriages in pregnant women.
House of Thaller, of Knoxville, Tennessee, recalled certain hummus with pine nut toppings sold in 10-ounce clear, round plastic containers with a lid that is clear or colored. The hummus was sold in various grocery stores in the United States from April 18, 2017 to June 13, 2017.
Listeria was discovered earlier this month during routine testing by HVF Inc., House of Thaller’s supplier of roasted pine nuts. The contaminated pine nuts were used in a different product for a different company, but HVF recalled all pine nuts made in its facility at the time.
