What is the problem?
Autosales, doing business as Summit Racing Equipment, has issued two separate recalls for 3-Ton Jack Stands and 6-Ton Jack Stands due to a risk of severe injury or death.
Summit Racing 3-Ton Jack Stand Recall
In December 2020, a recall was issued for Summit Racing 3-Ton Jack Stands (Part Number SUM-918005). The recall involves 419 units. They were produced between July 3, 2019 and July 14, 2020.
Summit Racing 6-Ton Jack Stand Recall
In December 2020, a recall was issued for Summit Racing 6-Ton Jack Stands (Part Number SUM-918006). The recall involves 774 units. They were produced between June 5, 2019 and July 14, 2020.
Why Was the Recall Issued?
The problem is that the ratchet bar may fail during use, which can allow a vehicle to suddenly fall. This could result in severe injury or death to anyone working under the vehicle or nearby.
The recall notice warns: “The ratchet bar may fail during use of this jack stand, which would allow the vehicle to fall without any warning, with the potential to injure persons near or under the lifted vehicle.”
Customers Report Fractured Ratchet Bars
The recall was announced after customers reported fractured ratchet bars. Further testing confirmed that the ratchet bar could break when the load was placed on one lug of the ratchet bar saddle, according to the recall notice.
Summit Racing is offering customers a full refund of the purchase price, plus an additional $25 gift certificate.
