July 23, 2020 — Health officials in Oregon are investigating a cluster of Salmonella illnesses at Si Casa Flores restaurants that may be linked to a nationwide outbreak of unknown origin.
Last week, Josephine County Public Health said Salmonella tests at Si Casa Flores all came back negative.
Even so, at least two people were hospitalized with severe Salmonella infections after eating at Si Casa Flores Mexican restaurants in Grants Pass, Oregon, and a cluster of additional illnesses were reported.
The cluster may be linked to a nationwide outbreak of Salmonella Newport illnesses of unknown origin. Oregon is a hotspot with 42 illnesses confirmed as of July 21, 2020.
The outbreak investigation from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has not yet identified a source for the outbreak, but there are at least 125 illnesses in 15 states, including 24 people who have been hospitalized.
