July 10, 2023 — The Georgia-based company Estancia Holdings has recalled one lot of sheep’s milk cheese due to a risk of Listeria contamination.
The recall involves Fromager Ottavi Tomme De Brebis Sheep Milk Cheese, with Lot #VC349 and a Use-By Date of 08/05/2023.
The cheese was imported from France to the U.S. in June 2023 and sold to a distributor in Portland, Oregon.
The recall was issued after the French supplier notified Estancia Holdings that they sent a wheel of cheese that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
No illnesses were reported, but infections with Listeria can be serious and sometimes deadly, especially for children, elderly adults, and people with vulnerable immune systems. Pregnant women may also suffer a miscarriage, stillbirth, or infection of the newborn baby.
