May 12, 2023 — A pressure cooker lawsuit has been filed against Farberware and Walmart by two people who claim they were seriously burned when the lid exploded off the pot.
The plaintiffs accuse Walmart of selling them a defective Farberware 7-in-1 Programmable Pressure Cooker (Model: WM-CS6004W).
In January 2022, they allegedly suffered serious burn injuries when the pressure cooker’s lid suddenly exploded off the pot, allowing its scalding-hot contents to be forcefully ejected onto their bodies.
Plaintiff Skyy W. claims that she was using the pressure cooker to make cabbage for her family. When she pressed the “Release” button, the lid “unexpectedly and suddenly blew off the pot in an explosive manner,” according to the lawsuit.
She allegedly suffered 2nd- and 3rd-degree burns to her arms, chest, breasts, stomach, neck and shoulders. The other plaintiff, Jaylon R., allegedly suffered 1st- and 2nd-degee burns on his left arm.
They are seeking compensation for “significant and painful bodily injuries,” permanent scarring, disfigurement, medical expenses, physical pain and mental anguish, and decreased quality of life.
Farberware and Walmart are accused of putting “profit ahead of safety by continuing to sell its pressure cookers to consumers,” failing to warn consumers of the serious risks, and failing to issue a recall.
The lawsuit was filed on May 4, 2023 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio (Eastern Division) — Case Number 2:23-cv-01510-ALM-CMV.
