E. coli Outbreak Linked to Organic Power Greens
In December 2021, health officials linked an outbreak of E. coli food poisoning illnesses to Organic Power Greens, including:
- Simple Truth® Organic Power Greens
- Nature’s Basket® Organic Power Greens
What Should I Do?
The CDC advised consumers not to eat Simple Truth Organic Power Greens or Nature’s Basket Organic Power Greens with “best if used by” dates through December 20, 2021.
How Many People Are Sick?
As of December 29, 2021, at least 13 people were infected with the outbreak strain of E. coli O157:H7 since November 27, 2021. Four people developed a life-threatening type of kidney failure called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS). No deaths were reported.
The illnesses were reported in 6 states, including: Alaska (2), Washington state (7), Oregon (1), California (1), Ohio (1), and Mississippi (1).
Where Was the Recalled Salad Sold?
The recall involves two store-brands of organic power greens — Nature’s Basket, a store-brand for Giant Eagle, and Simple Truth, a store brand for Kroger.
