Pacific Cycle Recalls 1,700 E-Bikes for Fire Hazard
In January 2024, Pacific Cycle recalled about 1,700 e-bikes after 3 fires were reported and one person suffered a 2nd-degree burn injury.
What is the Problem?
Pacific Cycle recalled about 1,700 Ascend Cabrillo and Ascend Minaret E-Bikes because the lithium-ion battery can overheat and catch on fire while charging.
According to the recall, the “wiring harness that manages the charging of the lithium-ion battery was not properly assembled, creating a risk of overheating and fire while charging.”
This problem poses a risk of severe burn injuries, death, and property damage if the fire spreads.
How To Identify Recalled E-Bikes
Pacific Cycle recalled certain Ascend Cabrillo E-Bikes (model numbers R7583BPS and R7585BPS) and Ascend Minaret E-Bikes (model number R7586BPS).
These electric bicycles were sold nationwide at Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops and online from January 2023 through November 2023 for between $1,400 and $1,500.
To check if your e-bike is being recalled, enter the serial number at the recall website: https://www.pacific-cycle.com/safety-notices-recalls.
What Should I Do?
If your e-bike is being recalled, Pacific Cycle urges you to immediately stop using it and unplug it. The e-bike should be returned to Cabela’s or Bass Pro Shops for a full refund.
