December 16, 2021 — A woman who was burned by her Instant Pot pressure cooker has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer.
The lawsuit was filed by Amber D., a woman from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 16, 2019, as a “result of the pressure cooker’s lid being able to be rotated and opened while the pressure cooker was still under pressure,” according to the lawsuit.
Opening the lid when there was still pressure inside the pot resulted in an explosion of hot food and liquid, “allowing its scalding hot contents to be forcefully ejected from the pressure cooker and onto [her body].”
Her lawsuit accuses Instant Brands Inc., the manufacturer of the Instant Pot, of selling a pressure cooker that is “unreasonably dangerous” because it was “defectively and negligently designed.”
Furthermore, she claims that Instant Brand’s claims about ‘safety’ are “not just misleading, they are flatly wrong, and put innocent consumers like Plaintiff directly in harm’s way.”
There are now dozens of pressure cooker lawsuits pending in state courts nationwide, all alleging that the products have defective lids or safety features that fail to lock the lid when the unit is pressurized.
The Instant Pot Lawsuit was filed against Instant Brands Inc. on December 10, 2021 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania — Case Number 2:21-cv-05417.
