January 25, 2018 — Warren Jeffs and other leaders of the Fundamentalist LDS Church are accused of “ritualistic sex abuse” involving girls as young as 8 years old in a new lawsuit filed by one of the victims.
The victim is a 21 year-old woman who is identified as “R.H.” She claims her abusers would put a bag over her head, take her from her home to an unknown location, take off her clothes, and abuse her.
R.H. says she was abused by Warren Jeffs, his brothers Lyle Jeffs and Seth Jeffs, and former FLDS leader Wendell Neilsen. Furthermore, R.H. says other people watched the sexual abuse, and it continued from when she was 8 years old until she was 14.
R.H. is seeking compensation from the United Effort Plan (UEP) Trust, a court-controlled real estate holdings arm of the FLDS Church, and says she filed the lawsuit to hold FLDS Church leaders accountable for the “systemic sexual abuse of young children.”
The lawsuit accuses church leaders of “viewing, watching, taping, participating in and documenting these sexual encounters with underage girls.”
Warren Jeffs, FLDS Church prophet, is serving life in prison in Texas. At his trial, juries were shown videotape recordings and audio of his rape of a 12 year-old girl in a so-called “spiritual marriage.” He was also convicted of raping a 15 year-old girl who was also impregnated.
The same lawyers representing R.H. also represented Elissa Wall, a woman who won a $2 million judgment against the UEP Trust. She filed a lawsuit after being married to her 1st cousin against her will at the age of 14 in a ceremony that was presided over by Warren Jeffs.
