Instant Pot ULTRA Lawsuit Filed by Burned Woman

Instant Pot ULTRA Lawsuit Filed by Burned Woman

October 4, 2024 — A woman from Wisconsin who was burned by an Instant Pot has filed a lawsuit against the retailer Kohl’s.

The plaintiff, Yashira P., is a woman from Milwaukee who claims that she purchased a defective and “unreasonably dangerous” pressure cooker from Kohl’s.

Her lawsuit specifically involves the Instant Pot ULTRA 60, which is a 10-in-1 multi-cooker and pressure cooker. The was advertised to have safety features that prevent the lid from being opened while in use.

Instead, she claims that it “suffers from serious and dangerous defects,” which pose a “significant risk of bodily harm and injury.”

According to her lawsuit: “The lid of the pressure cooker is removable with built-up pressure, heat, and steam still inside the unit.”

On May 30, 2021, she suffered serious burn injuries when she was able to open the lid of the pressure cooker while it was pressurized, which caused the “scalding-hot contents to be forcefully ejected.”

Her use of the pressure cooker caused serious bodily injuries, medical expenses, lost wages, physical pain, mental anguish, diminished enjoyment of life, and other damages, according to the complaint.

The defendants are Midea America Corp. and Kohl’s, a retailer based in Wisconsin that sold the pressure cooker which caused her injuries.

Her Instant Pot ULTRA Pressure Cooker Lawsuit was filed on May 15, 2024 in the State of Wisconsin Circuit Court (Milwaukee County) — Case 2024CV003921.
