May 24, 2024 — A lawsuit has been filed against Best Buy by a mother and her 7-year-old child who were burned by a pressure cooker.
The lawsuit was filed by plaintiffs Shianka W. and her 7-year-old son, identified only as “L.H.,” who both live in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The lawsuit alleges that on May 30, 2023, they both suffered “serious and substantial burn injuries” as a result of opening the pressure cooker’s lid while it was still pressurized.
The incident involved an Insignia 8-Quart Multi-Function Pressure Cooker (Model Number NS-MC80SS9) that was sold by Best Buy.
According to the complaint, the pressure cooker is “dangerously defective” because unsuspecting consumers can open the lid while there is still a dangerous amount of pressure trapped inside the unit.
The plaintiffs are seeking compensation for significant and painful bodily injuries, medical expenses, lost wages, physical pain, mental anguish, and diminished enjoyment of life.
The lawsuit was filed on May 13, 2024 against Best Buy Co. Inc. and Midea America Corp. — Case Number 0:24-cv-01730.
