In April 2022, Alpine Fresh Inc. recalled 1-pound packages of Hippie Organics® French Beans (Lot #313-626) due to a risk of serious food poisoning infections with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.
Where Was It Sold?
The recalled “Hippie Organics 1lbs French Beans” were distributed to the following stores:
- Whole Foods (CT, FL, GA, IL, MD)
- Aldi (FL)
- Lidl (DE, GA, MD, NJ, NY, NC, PA, SC, VA)
What is the Problem?
No illnesses were reported. Instead, the recall was issued after “routine testing by the company revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in 1-pound packages of Hippie Organics French Beans From lot # 313-626,” according to the recall notice.
What is Listeria?
Listeria monocytogenes is a type of bacteria that can cause serious, sometimes fatal food poisoning infections. The bacteria can survive on foods in the refrigerator and even the freezer.
An infection is more likely to be life-threatening or deadly for young children (under 5 years old), older adults, and people with vulnerable immune systems. Pregnant women may suffer a miscarriage, stillbirth, or an infection in the newborn baby.
The symptoms of an infection with Listeria can include headache, stiff neck, convulsions, fever, muscle aches, diarrhea, or vomiting.
