Graco Little Lounger Rocking Seat Recall
January 29, 2020 — Graco recalled about 113,000 Little Lounger Rocking Seats in the U.S. and Mexico due to the risk of suffocation. No injuries were reported, but Little Loungers have a similar design as other inclined baby sleepers that are linked to dozens of deaths. Infants can roll over and suffocate, or die under other circumstances.
What Products Were Recalled?
The Graco Little Lounger Rocking Seat™ is an inclined rocking seat and a vibrating lounger. The recalled products have Model Numbers: 1872034, 1875063, 1875102, 1877160, 1882081, 1896313, 1908957, 1914283, 2047734 and 1922809.
They were sold at Target, Babies R Us, other stores nationwide, and online from 2013 through 2018 for about $80. Consumers should stop using the product and contact Graco for a cash refund or a voucher.
What is the problem?
Inclined baby sleepers are designed for infants to sleep at an upward angle. Unfortunately, at least 73 babies have died when they rolled from their back onto their stomach or side and suffocated because their face became trapped against the fabric.
Even very young infants who can’t roll over yet can also suffocate in inclined sleepers. Young babies can’t hold their head up at an inclined angle, so their airway is compressed because their chin touches their chest. They can suffocate due to a condition called “positional asphyxia.”
Baby Sleeper Lawsuits
A growing number of lawsuits have been filed by the families of babies who were injured, suffocated, or died in inclined sleeping products. Many of these lawsuits were filed after Fisher-Price recalled nearly 5 million Rock ‘n Play Sleepers after dozens of deaths were reported. The lawsuits and class actions claim these recalls came far too late.
