Govee Space Heaters Recalled for Fire Hazard
In November 2024, about 512,500 Govee Smart Electric Space Heaters were recalled due to fire and burn hazards. The space heaters were imported by the Chinese company Govee (also called “GoveeLife”).
What Happened?
There were 113 reports of Govee Smart Electric Space Heaters overheating, including 7 reports of fires. One person in the U.S. suffered a minor burn injury, according to the recall.
What is the Problem?
Govee blamed the fire hazard on defective wireless control features, which may cause the space heater to overheat. The company said:
“Testing determined the smart electric space heaters do not comply with the voluntary industry safety standard, UL 1278, posing an overheating and fire risk from wireless control functions.”
What is the Risk?
Space heaters that overheat can potentially catch on fire. This could be deadly if the fire spreads inside a home and traps people or pets. There is also a risk of severe injuries, such as 3rd-degree burns, smoke inhalation, hospitalization, scarring, and death.
How To Identify Recalled Space Heaters
The recall involves GoveeLife and Govee Smart Electric Space Heaters with Model Numbers:
- H7130 (including the H7130101 variation)
- H7131
- H7132
- H7133
- H7134
- H7135
The model number is located on the manufacturer’s label on the underside of each unit. The name “GoveeLife” or “Govee” is printed on the front or the side of the space heater.
Where Were They Sold?
They were sold from September 2021 through September 2024 online at Amazon.com, https://us.govee.com, the Govee Home App and TikTok Shop. The recall also includes about 48,600 space heaters that were sold in Canada. There were 7 reports of units overheating in Canada.
What Should I Do?
Govee is urging customers to immediately unplug and stop using the recalled space heaters. You can get a refund by visiting the website: https://recall.goveelife.com/heater-recall.
To get a refund, you must unplug the electric space heater, cut the power cord, and send Govee an image of the destroyed electric space heater, along with the manufacturer’s label and SN Code.
