Muffins Recalled for Listeria Risk

In July 2021, Give & Go Prepared Foods Corp. recalled multiple brands of muffins due to a risk of Listeria food poisoning infections.

Where Were They Sold?

The recalled muffins were sold nationwide at 7-Eleven, Sam’s Club, Walmart, Stop & Shop, and other stores, under brand-names like:

• Freshness Guaranteed
• Great Value
• Marketside

What is the Problem?

No illnesses were reported. Instead, the muffin products were recalled after Listeria monocytogenes bacteria was detected as “part of our environmental monitoring program,” according to the company.

What is the Risk?

Infections with Listeria bacteria can cause serious and sometimes fatal food poisoning illnesses. Healthy people may suffer only short-term symptoms like a high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Pregnant women may suffer a miscarriage, stillbirths, or deadly infection of the newborn.
