Listeria monocytogenes can survive on food in the freezer. Anyone can get sick, but it is most dangerous for pregnant women and their newborn babies, elderly adults, and people with weakened immune systems.

Signs & Symptoms of Listeria

Food poisoning infections with Listeria can cause symptoms on the same day that contaminated food is eaten, but it can take up to 70 days for symptoms to appear

According to the FDA, “Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Listeria monocytogenes infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.”
