What is the Ford F-350?
The F-350 Super Duty is a full-size pickup truck that can weigh over 8,500 pounds. Ford gives them the name “Super Duty” because it is designed for heavy-duty work, towing, hauling, and off-road driving. Compared to the F-250, the F-350 has a much higher towing capacity and payload capacity, which is why it is considered a working truck.
What is the Problem?
Ford sold more than 5.2 million F-series Super Duty trucks from model-years 1999-2016 with a structurally weak roof that may not survive rollovers. These trucks include the F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550.
What Happened?
Ever since a jury handed down a $1.7 billion verdict in August 2022, Ford has been hit by a growing number of lawsuits and class action from angry truck owners who no longer feel safe driving their vehicles.
Does Your F-350 Have a Weak Roof?
If you own a Ford F-350 Super Duty truck was built before 2017, it was designed with a roof that met government standards for vehicles weighing up to 6,000 pounds. The problem is that your truck likely weighs a lot more than 6,000 pounds, so the roof may not be strong enough to protect you from being crushed and killed in a rollover.
Has Ford Recalled Trucks for Weak Roof Problems?
No. Ford has not issued any recalls for trucks with roofs that can crush and kill people in rollovers. Ford has also failed to warn innocent drivers who are still unaware of this deadly safety risk.
Ford Hit With 162+ Lawsuits for Rollover Roof Crush Accidents
At least 162 lawsuits have been filed by the victims of these tragic rollover accidents, but Ford has quietly paid out “hush money” settlements for decades to avoid big jury verdicts and bad press.
That all ended in August 2022, when a jury handed down a $1.7 billion verdict for a couple in Georgia who died when the roof crushed on their F-250 Super Duty truck. Now, Ford is facing even more lawsuits.
F-350 Class Action Lawsuit Claims Truck Has Weak Roof
In September 2022, a class action lawsuit was filed by a man from California who owns a 2013 F-350 Super Duty truck to use on his vineyard in Paso Robles.
In the lawsuit, he said “he no longer feels safe in it for fear of what could happen if the vehicle were to be involved in a rollover accident,” due to a dangerously weak roof structure.
He claims that Ford built the truck knowing that it had “unsafe and inadequate roof strength. … This catastrophic injury and death risk is the direct result of a design defect that was known to Ford and is still un-remedied by Ford.” According to the lawsuit:
“Since there was no applicable standard regulating roof strength, Ford purposefully downgraded roof strength in order to save manufacturing costs and thereby enhance its profits.”
He is seeking to represent a nationwide class of people who own or lease Ford Ford Super Duty pickup trucks, including the F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550, that were built between 1999 and 2016.
Ford Motor Company was hit with the class action lawsuit on September 9, 2022 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan — Case Number 2:22-cv-12079.
