FitRx SmartBell XL Dumbbell Recall
In March 2025, Tzumi Electronics (also known as FitRx) announced a voluntary recall for about 12,400 SmartBell XL Quick-Select Adjustable Dumbbells after 7 people were injured when weight plates fell off the dumbbell handle, which poses an impact injury hazard.
What is the problem?
The problem is that the weight plates can unexpectedly detach from the dumbbell handle and fall off during use.
FitRx explained in their Safety Warning:
“Weight plates on FitRx SmartBell XL Quick-Select Adjustable Dumbbells (10-90 lbs.) (SmartBell XL, for short) can fall from the dumbbell handles during use, potentially hitting users during their workouts. This issue may result in injury, especially if the weight plates detach suddenly and unexpectedly and make contact with a user.”
How Many People Were Injured?
There were more than 60 reports of the weight plates detaching from the dumbbell handle during use, resulting in 7 injuries, including bruises, contusions, and abrasions (scrapes).
