Kandy Cantaloupe Recalled by Eagle Produce for Salmonella Risk
In September 2024, the Arizona-based company Eagle Produce LLC recalled fresh whole cantaloupe sold under the “KANDY” brand-name due to a risk of Salmonella.
What Happened?
No illnesses were linked to the recalled Kandy Cantaloupes, but a routine test on a cantaloupe that was collected from a retail store in Michigan tested positive for Salmonella contamination, according to health officials in the State of Michigan.
Where Were They Sold?
The recall involves 224 cases of Kandy® Cantaloupes that were distributed between August 13 and August 17, 2024 in Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Texas and Virginia and sold in retail supermarkets.
They can be identified by a red-and-white sticker label with “KANDY” across the top, UPC Number Code 4050, and Lot Code 846468.
Eagle Produce Recalls Cantaloupes for Salmonella Risk
In September 2023, Eagle Produce LLC previously recalled about 6,456 cases of whole cantaloupe under the “KANDY” brand after it tested positive for Salmonella. No illnesses were reported.
What is the Risk?
Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal food poisoning infections. High-risk people include young children, frail or elderly adults, and others with weak immune systems.
Healthy adults may experience symptoms such as fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), and abdominal pain. In rare cases, Salmonella can spread beyond the digestive system and cause a bloodstream infection or life-threatening complications.
What Should I Do?
Customers who bought these recalled cantaloupes are urged not to eat them. Contact a healthcare provider if you are concerned about an illness that may be linked to these cantaloupes.
