Complera Class Action Lawsuit
In May 2018, Gilead Sciences was hit with a class action lawsuit in California on behalf of everyone who took Complera and other HIV medications that contain Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (TDF).
Lawyers who filed the class action accuse Gilead Sciences of failing to warn patients about severe side effects of TDF, although Gilead knew as far back as 2001 that TDF was “…highly toxic in the doses prescribed and risked permanent and possibly fatal damage to the kidneys and bones.”
Complera Lawsuits
A growing number of individual lawsuits have also been filed against Gilead Sciences by people who developed side effects of Complera and other HIV medications, such as kidney failure, tooth decay, or bone thinning.
Did Gilead Delay Development of a Safer Drug?
TDF is an old version of tenofovir that is no longer recommended because it must be taken in high doses, which results in a higher risk of side effects in the bones and kidneys. Gilead is accused of intentionally delaying development of a newer, safer version of tenofovir called TAF (Tenofovir Alafenamide), to maximize profits on older drugs like Complera.
What is the problem?
The Schmidt Firm, PLLC is nationally recognized as a class action law firm, but we are not currently filing a Complera class action lawsuit. Instead, we are filing individual lawsuits for people who took Complera and developed severe side effects in their bones, teeth, or kidneys.

About Class Actions
Class actions are not usually filed on behalf of people with very serious injuries from dangerous medications. This is because everyone who joins a class action must share the payout, which can be a disadvantage for people with far more serious injuries.
Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action
There is no excuse for drug-makers who sell dangerous medications and fail to warn about life-threatening side effects. Instead of a class action, our law firm is helping individuals who were harmed by Complera file individual lawsuits, seeking compensation for their injuries, medical bills, permanent disabilities, lost income, and more.
