UPDATE: Fruit & Cheese Plate Added to Listeria Recall
On October 7, 2022, Cut Fruit Express recalled Caribou Coffee Fruit and Cheese Plate (6.2-oz.) because the cheese may be contaminated by Listeria bacteria. The recalled product was distributed from Caribou Stores at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport Caribou locations inside the airport. The products were shipped between September 26 through October 5, and labeled with USE BY DATES of 9/30/2022, 10/2/2022, 10/4/2022, 10/7/2022, and 10/9/2022.
Recall Expands to Include Baked Brie Cheeses
On October 5, 2022, Old Europe Cheese Inc. expanded the recall to include a variety of Baked Brie Cheeses that may be contaminated with Listeria. The products have best-by dates through December 14, 2022, including:
- Culinary Tour® Plain Baked Brie and Cranberry Baked Brie
- La Bonne Vie® Plain Baked Brie and Cranberry Baked Brie
- Lidl® Plain Baked Brie, Cranberry Baked Brie, and Fig Baked Brie
- Primo Taglio® Plain Baked Brie
- Reny Picot® Plain Baked Brie, Apple Baked Brie, Cranberry Baked Brie, and Fig Baked Brie
Saint Louis Brie Added to Recall
On October 4, 2022, Swiss American recalled St. Louis Brie products that may be contaminated by Listeria bacteria. The recall involves all brie wedges and wheels with best-by dates up through December 14, 2022.
CDC Links 6 Illnesses to Recalled Brie & Camembert Cheese
At least 6 people were infected with the outbreak strain of Listeria after eating recalled Brie and Camembert cheese since August 2017, according to the CDC outbreak investigation. Five people were hospitalized due to a severe illness. The illnesses were reported in 6 states: California, Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, and Texas.
Brie & Camembert Cheese Recall
In September 2022, a massive amount of Brie and Camembert cheese was recalled by Old Europe Cheese Inc., a Michigan-based company that sells cheese to many stores and distributors.
What is the Problem?
The problem is that the recalled Brie and Camembert cheeses may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause deadly food poisoning, or serious pregnancy complications.
How Many People Got Sick?
According to the recall, a sample from the facility tested positive for the same strain of Listeria that sickened 6 people from 2017 to 2022.

Soft Cheese and Listeria
Soft cheese has been a recurrent source of Listeria outbreaks in the past. Between 1998 and 2014, there were 180 confirmed illnesses, 17 deaths, and 14 pregnant women who suffered a miscarriage or stillbirth. Around 88% of people who got sick had to be hospitalized due to a severe illness, according to the CDC.
