Atomi Smart Heaters Recalled for Fire Hazard & Burn Injury Risk
In July 2024, the New York-based company Atomi Smart announced a voluntary recall for about 99,400 Atomi Smart Heaters.
What is the Problem?
The smart heaters were recalled because they can turn on without user input. There was 1 report of the heater turning on independently. No injuries were reported, but the problem poses a risk of burn injuries and a fire hazard.
How To Identify Recalled Smart Heaters
The recall includes several types of Atomi Smart Heaters:
- Atomi Smart Heaters, tower models: AT1323, AT1481, AT1520 and AT1632
- Atomi Smart Heaters, tabletop models: AT1482 and AT1521
- Atomi Smart Heaters, wall heater model: AT1635
Where Were They Sold?
The recalled Atomi Smart Heaters were sold nationwide at Amazon.com, Ace Hardware, Atomiusa.com, Best Buy, BJʼs Wholesale Club, Costco, Hammacher Schlemmer, Home Depot, Lowes.com, Menards, Sam’s Club and Walmart stores.
They were sold between October 2019 through April 2024 for between $80 and $150, depending on the model. About 99,400 heaters were sold in the U.S., and an additional 10,700 were sold in Canada. There were no reports of the product self-operating or causing any injuries in Canada.
What Should I Do?
Atomi Smart is urging customers to immediately stop using the recalled heaters, unplug the units, and follow the instructions online at www.atomiheaterrecall.com for instructions on how to register to receive a full refund.
