August 13, 2014 — Applegate Naturals is recalling over 15,300 pounds of frozen, fully-cooked chicken nuggets after receiving customer complaints about pieces of plastic in the products.
Because the product is frozen, it is possible that some consumers still have it in their freezers.
The Class II recall was announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for the following chicken nugget products:
- Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets: 8-oz. box with establishment number “P2617” and “Best By” date of February 5, 2015.
The recalled products were produced at one facility in Gainsville, Georgia by Perdue Farms, Inc., the third-largest poultry company in the United States. They were produced on February 5, 2014 and had a sell-by date of February 5, 2015. They were pulled off the market on August 8.
Tyson Chicken Nugget Recall
April 2014 — Tyson Foods has recalled 75,000 pounds of frozen chicken nuggets after receiving consumer complaints about plastic pieces. Some consumers suffered minor mouth injuries from sharp pieces of plastic in the chicken nuggets. The problem was traced to a “product scraper” inside a blending machine that was shedding bits of plastic.
