Study Links Apex K2 and Metal Corrosion

The Apex K2 was linked to a risk of stem migration and metal corrosion in a study published by the Journal of Arthroplasty in October 2015.

Researchers looked at data on 95 patients and found evidence of serious risks. Two patients needed revision surgery due to deep joint infections. Others experienced a painful complication of metal hip implants known as ALVAL, short for aseptic lymphocyte dominated vasculitis-associated lesions.

Apex K2 Hip Implant Linked to 9.3% Three-Year Failure Risk

In October 2012, health officials in Australia warned that the Omni Apex K2 had been linked to a 9.3% three-year failure-rate, and a 5.5% one-year failure-rate, in a study of data from the Australian National Joint Replacement Registry (NJRR).

The agency recommended patients with the hip replacement to consult their orthopedic surgeon and undergo annual examinations. According to the officials:

“If you are not sure what type of hip replacement you have, or if you have concerns about your hip replacement, you should seek information from the surgeon who performed the operation or the hospital where the operation was performed.”

What is the problem?

The Schmidt Firm, PLLC is nationally recognized as a class action law firm. However, our attorneys are not currently filing an Apex K2 class action against Omni Life Sciences. Instead, we are filing individual lawsuits and only accepting cases involving serious injuries or surgery.

About Class Actions

Class actions are typically filed by a “class representative” on behalf of everyone who was injured. Everyone who joins the lawsuit consolidates their legal claims and collectively fights for compensation. If compensation is awarded, everyone shares the payout.

Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action

The disadvantage of a class action is that members are often forced into a “low ball settlement” with higher attorneys’ fees. Our lawyers understand that many of our clients are suffering devastating injuries to their physical, emotional, and financial health. We file individual lawsuits so we can provide personal legal representation and maximize compensation for each of our clients.
