August 7, 2017 — ALDI stores have issued a safety recall for certain Crofton Chef’s Collection 6L Pressure Cookers because the lid can open during cooking and burn people standing nearby.
ALDI recalled stainless steel 6-Liter pressure cookers with Product Code #50073. The products can be identified by the date code “2017” embossed on the bottom base plate. They were sold in Australia from June 28, 2017 through July 21, 2017, as well as in the United States.
According to the recall notice:
In some cases the lid locking mechanism may be defective causing the lid to detach when cooking. If this happens, there is a risk of scalding to the user.”
Pressure cookers with defective lids are extremely dangerous. If the lid unlocks unexpectedly when the pressure inside the cooker is at a boiling-hot temperature, hot food and steam will explode violently out of the cooker and cause serious burn injuries to people nearby.
The pressure cookers were supplied by H&H Asia Ltd. The recall does not include other Crofton pressure cooker models.
