March 3, 2025 — A lawsuit has been filed against Best Buy for burn injuries that were caused by a recalled pressure cooker.
The plaintiff, Nierra R., is a resident of Baltimore, Maryland, who claims to have suffered “serious and substantial burn injuries” on September 5, 2022 when she opened the lid on her pressure cooker.
The incident involved a pressure cooker that was manufactured and sold by Best Buy — the Insignia 6-Qt. Multi-Function Pressure Cooker (Model Number NS-MC60SS9).
About one year after she was burned, this exact same model of pressure cooker was recalled by Best Buy due to reports of lid detachment and serious burn injuries.
There were “31 reports of incidents in which the contents were expelled under pressure, including 17 reports of burn injuries, some of which involved reports of second-degree and severe burns.”
Her lawsuit accuses Best Buy of selling defective pressure cookers that were “unreasonably dangerous” for their intended use.
The Pressure Cooker Lawsuit was filed against Best Buy on February 5, 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota — Case Number 0:25-cv-00441.
