Farmalac Infant Formula Recall

On May 24, 2024, Dairy Manufacturers Inc. of Prosper, Texas, announced a recall for all lot codes of Crecelac and Farmalac Infant Formula because they were sold illegally in the U.S.

How To Identify Recalled Infant Formula

What Happened?

Dairy Manufacturers never submitted the mandatory pre-market notification to the FDA, so the recalled products were never evaluated by the FDA to determine whether they meet U.S. food safety and nutritional standards for infant formula. No illnesses were reported.

Infant Formula Tests Positive for Cronobacter

On May 31, 2024, the FDA warned parents and caregivers after tests were positive for dangerous Cronobacter bacteria in a sample of Crecelac Infant Powdered Goat Milk Infant Formula that was collected from a retail store in Texas.

What is the Risk?

Cronobacter is a bacteria that can cause bloodstream infections, sepsis, central nervous system infections, meningitis, and death. Some of the most severe complications from a Cronobacter infection can include brain abscess, developmental delays, motor impairments, and death. The risk of a severe infection is highest for premature infants.
