Folding E-Bikes Recalled for Crash Hazard
In January 2024, Ride Aventon recalled about 2,300 folding e-bikes that can accelerate unexpectedly and crash, posing a risk of severe injury or death to the rider.
What is the Problem?
The problem has been linked to “unintended acceleration of the motor and potentially unsafe conditions for the rider.”
According to the recall notice posted by Aventon: “The recalled e-bikes can accelerate unexpectedly, resulting in a loss of control, posing crash and injury hazards.”
How Many Incidents Were Reported?
Aventon said it received 6 reports of the Sinch.2 e-bikes accelerating unexpectedly. No injuries were reported.
How To Identify Recalled E-Bikes
The recall involves Class 2 Sinch.2 electric bicycles. The folding, 500w e-bikes were sold in silver (quicksilver) and blue (sapphire.)The name “Aventon” is printed on the side of the downtube of the e-bike frame and “Sinch.2” is printed on the chain stay that runs to the rear of the bicycle connecting the rear wheel to the frame.
Where Were They Sold?
The recalled e-bikes were sold nationwide at bike dealers and online retailers including BestBuy.com and Eriksbikeshop.com from May 2023 through August 2023 for about $1,800.
