Lipodrene Recalled for DMAA
In May 2021, Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals announced a voluntary recall for Lipodrene w/25mg Ephedra Extract because it contains DMAA, an illegal ingredient that is linked to heart attacks.
What Supplements Were Recalled?
The recall involves a single lot of Lipodrene — Lot #001211197, Expiration 12/25. The supplements were sold nationwide in the U.S. and Puerto Rico at retail stores and also online.
What is the Problem?
No illnesses or injuries were reported. Instead, Lipodrene was recalled after FDA tests on the supplement were positive for an illegal stimulant drug called 1,4-dimethylamylamine (DMAA).
What is DMAA?
The FDA warns that DMAA is “dangerous because it can narrow blood vessels and arteries and cause a corresponding rise in blood pressure or other cardiovascular problems.” The potential side effects include:
- Shortness of breath
- Arrhythmias (abnormal heartbeat)
- High blood pressure
- Chest tightness
- Heart attack
- Death
