UPDATE: Walmart Expands Fruit Recall for Listeria Risk
On October 3, 2020, Country Fresh expanded a recall to include more of Walmart’s Freshness Guaranteed® fruit bowls that contain “cut and/or sliced apples, grapes, mangos, pineapples and cantaloupe” that may be contaminated with Listeria.
No illnesses were reported as of October 3. The FDA found Listeria monocytogenes on equipment in an area near where these products are packed, according to Country Fresh.
The expanded recall includes fruit products that were sold at Walmart stores in 9 states: Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas. The “best if used by” dates are between October 3, 2020 and October 11, 2020.

Watermelon Recalled for Listeria Risk
On October 1, 2020, Country Fresh recalled watermelon chunks from Walmart and RaceTrac gas stations in 5 states (Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Oklahoma, and Texas) due to a risk of Listeria contamination.
No illnesses were reported as of October 1, but the FDA detected Listeria on equipment used in packing the recalled products.
The recall involves pre-cut watermelon chunks, spears, and mixed fruit bowls with watermelon. They come in a variety of clear plastic bowls and clamshell boxes with best-by dates of October 2, 3, and 4, 2020. They were distributed on September 23, 24, and 25, 2020.

Listeria Food Poisoning Symptoms & Risks
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can cause serious food poisoning infections, particularly in pregnant women and people with vulnerable immune systems. Healthy adults may suffer a high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women may suffer a miscarriage or stillbirth.
