August 11, 2020 — Wegmans grocery stores recalled certain lemons, limes, oranges, red potatoes, and fresh foods due to a risk of Listeria contamination.
On August 9, Freshouse II, LLC, of North Carolina, announced a recall for mesh bags and bulk shipments of red potatoes, lemons, limes, and Valencia oranges.
The recall was issued as a precaution after a piece of equipment in their facility tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
In response, Wegmans recalled their store-brand Wegmans® lemons and Valencia oranges, Fresh from the Start® lemons and red potatoes, Natures Promise® organic limes, and Freshouse® limes.
Wegmans also announced an expanded recall for seafood, pizza, chicken cutlets, and fresh foods that contain the recalled lemons or limes.
Wegmans recalled the items from stores in Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina and New York (Brooklyn and Harrison only).
No illnesses were reported, but Listeria infections that spread to the bloodstream or central nervous system have a 20-30% risk of death. Pregnant women who are infected may also suffer a stillbirth, premature birth, miscarriage, or life-threatening infection of the baby.
