Tip Top Poultry Chicken Recall
In October 2019, Tip Top Poultry Inc. of Rockmart, Georgia expanded a recall for fully-cooked chicken due to a risk of Listeria monocytogenes bacteria contamination.
The recall involves frozen, fully-cooked, diced or shredded, ready-to-eat chicken products that were produced between January 21, 2019 and September 24, 2019.
What is the Problem?
The recall was issued after Tip Top Poultry was notified that multiple samples of products were confirmed to be positive for the presence of Listeria monocytogenes after being tested in Canada.
Chicken Recalls
In response to Tip Top Poultry’s recall, the following recalls were issued for chicken salad, sandwiches, salads, burritos, bowls, and many other products:
- Jumbo Foods Inc. (October 9)
- Lipari Foods (October 7)
- Grand Stand Sandwich Company (October 3)
- Lipari Foods (October 2)
- Coborn’s Inc (October 2)
- E.A. Sween Company (October 2)
- Mrs. Stratton’s (October 2)
- Northern Tier Bakery (October 1)
Symptoms of Listeria Food Poisoning
Eating food that is contaminated with Listeria can cause a severe illness, or even death. The symptoms of an infection may include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, convulsions, and sometimes diarrhea or gastrointestinal symptoms. In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery, or life-threatening infection of the baby.
