Truvada Class Action Lawsuit in California
In May 2018, a class action lawsuit was filed in California for everyone who took HIV medications that contain Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (TDF). Lawyers claim that the drug-maker, Gilead Sciences, knew as far back as 2001 that TDF was “…highly toxic in the doses prescribed and risked permanent and possibly fatal damage to the kidneys and bones.”
Truvada Lawsuits
Gilead Sciences is facing a growing number of lawsuits and class actions from people who took HIV medications that contain TDF, such as Truvada, before developing severe bone loss, tooth decay, and kidney side effects.
Did Gilead Delay Development of a Safer Drug?
The problem is that large amounts of TDF are absorbed into the bones and kidneys, which increases the risk of severe side effects. Lawsuits accuse Gilead of intentionally delaying development of a lower-dose and safer version of TDF, called TAF (Tenofovir Alafenamide), to maximize profits on older drugs like Truvada.
What is the problem?
The Schmidt Firm, PLLC is nationally recognized as a class action law firm in Texas, but we are not currently filing a Truvada class action lawsuit. Instead, we are filing individual lawsuits for people who took Truvada and developed kidney side effects, dental problems, or thinning of the bones.

About Class Actions
Class action lawsuits are not typically how people with serious injuries from medications seek compensation from drug-makers. The problem with class actions is that everyone who qualifies to join the lawsuit gets to share the payout, which can be a disadvantage for individuals with far more serious injuries and medical bills than everyone else.
Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action
There is no excuse for pharmaceutical companies who profit by selling dangerous medications and failing to warn about side effects. Instead of a class action, our lawyers are focusing on helping individuals who were injured by Truvada file individual lawsuits, seeking compensation for pain and suffering, medical bills, permanent injuries, lost wages, and more.
