Seroquel is popular schizophrenia drug in a chemical class called dibenzothiazepine derivatives. On April 12, 2005, the FDA applied a black box warning against the potential development of diabetes. Seroquel has also been linked to serious adverse effects including hyperglycemia, ketoacidosis, pancreatitis, Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS), Tardive Dyskinesia (TD), diabetic comas and death.
What is the problem with Seroquel?
Seroquel was approved to patients who suffered from schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. It was also prescribed for off-label use in the treatment of sleep disorders, alcoholism, restless leg syndrome, and post traumatic stress disorder.
