September 30, 2015 — The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has reported 671 cases of Salmonella in 34 states have been linked to cucumbers imported from Mexico.
Another 113 cases of food poisoning were reported in 19 states since the last update on September 22. Over half of the illnesses (51%) occurred in children under 18 years old, 131 people were hospitalized, and three people died.
The cucumbers were grown in northern Mexico and imported by Andrew & Williamson Fresh Produce. The company issued a recall on September 4. On September 11, another recall was issued by Custom Produce Sales for cucumbers obtained from Andrew & Williamson.
The hardest-hit state is California, where one person died and 164 illnesses were reported. The earliest illnesses were reported on July 3. It is possible that illnesses after September 2 have not been reported yet. It can take up to four weeks for health officials to confirm that a case of food poisoning is part of an outbreak
