Tygacil (tigecycline) is an antibiotic medication that is associated with a higher risk of death than other antibiotics. Although no one knows exactly why Tygacil is associated with a lower cure-rate, it may be that inhibiting bacterial growth is simply less effective than killing bacteria directly.
Tygacil Black Box Warning
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published a warning for Tygacil in 2010, after a study found that it increased patients’ risk of death by 30% compared to other antibiotics. In 2012, the consumer advocacy group Public Citizen called for a Black Box warning about the increased risk of death. In September 2013, the FDA announced that they will add this warning to the label on Tygacil. Click here to read more.
What is the problem?
The Schmidt Firm, PLLC is nationally recognized as a class action law firm, but our Defective Drug Litigation Group is not filing a Tygacil class action lawsuit. Instead, we are providing free case evaluations and filing individual lawsuits on behalf of people who were seriously injured or died after being treated with Tygacil.
About Class Actions
Class actions aggregate a large number of similar legal claims into one representative lawsuit. They are ideal when thousands of people have the same legal claim against the same defendant — such as purchasing a defective product. However, for people with severe injuries, class actions can have disadvantages. Members are often forced into accepting higher attorneys’ fees or a “low-ball” settlement.
Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Tygacil Class Action
Tygacil is associated with severe, life-threatening side effects. Instead of a class action, we file individual lawsuits because we believe that everyone who was injured by this drug deserves an attorney who will fight for justice and compensation on their behalf.
