August 22, 2016 — An 11 year-old girl from Colorado who experienced long-term hair loss after using WEN Conditioner has joined a class action lawsuit.
The Daily Mail reports that Eliana Lawrence used WEN only three times before going bald.
The incident occurred two years ago, but her hair did not grown back completely and she was teased by her classmates. That is part of the reason why she was home-schooled last year.
She said she was “scared that I had cancer or something,” according to FOX31.
Eliana is one of more than 21,000 people who have complained about WEN. After the complaints were discovered during an inspection, the FDA opened a Safety Investigation.
Eliana is also asking lawmakers to support a law that would force cosmetics-makers to report adverse events and give the FDA authority to recall unsafe cosmetics.
Hundreds of people have already joined a class action lawsuit. The manufacturer of WEN offered to settle the class action for $25 million, which would provide up to $20,000 to people who experienced hair loss and a $25 refund for everyone who bought WEN.
